Liberty and the Free Market in England

Directly following participation in Values & Capitalism’s summer conference (June 12-14, 2014), Professors Geri Mason (Seattle Pacific University) and Tom Copeland (Geneva College) will be leading an exciting study abroad course in England on the topic of liberty and free markets. During this two-week trip, students will read and reflect on the writings of philosophers and economists such as Adam Smith, John Locke, Jeremy Bentham and John Maynard Keynes, among others, tracing the origins of free market thinking and its application in the 18th-21st centuries.

In addition, students will have the chance to visit various historical sites in England, including Oxford University, the Houses of Parliament, the Bank of England and museums of the Industrial Revolution. Students will also meet venture capitalists, party leaders and government officials.
